West Ham United are interested in signing Bournemouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic in the January transfer window, that is according to The Sun.
The Cherries shot-stopper is out of favour at Dean Court. He has fallen behind both Aaron Ramsdale and Artur Boruc in the pecking order which has meant that the Bosnian has ended up spending the first half of this season on loan at Azerbaijani club Qarabag.
Should West Ham sign Asmir Begovic?
However, his temporary deal with the club expires on December 31st (Transfermarkt) and he is thought to be keen to find another outfit in January, whether it is on loan or on a permanent deal.
West Ham could be a potential destination for the 32-year-old, who are thought to be looking for a back-up option to Lukasz Fabianski.
Their current number two Roberto has been awful this season and, in the six games he has played, he has conceded 14 goals (Transfermarkt).
Reports suggest he could be moved out in January (The Guardian), which would create space in the squad for the Hammers to bring in another goalkeeper.
But it seems as though several West Ham fans wouldn’t want to see Begovic fill that gap, with many suggesting that the ex-Chelsea stopper is past his best.
Indeed, he really struggled last season whilst at Bournemouth and made the joint-most amount of errors leading to goals along with Bernd Leno (premierleague.com).
Here is what some had to say on Twitter, with one fan suggesting that it would be a “classic” David Sullivan signing…
Big name ✔️
Past it ✔️

He used to be very good few seasons ago but signing him now is a big risk. I would take Jack Butland over him.

No thanks. A toxic player that is totally unprofessional. There’s a reason why Eddie Howe has isolated him out the squad.

Guy who made the most mistakes leading to goals than any other player on the league last year…
Sounds about right.

We’re in for Begovic? A big name who’s way past best and available on the cheap? Doesn’t sound like West Ham at all!
