West Ham: Fans heap praise on David Martin after beating Chelsea

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini rang the changes for his team’s Premier League trip to Stamford Bridge this afternoon, making four alterations to his starting line-up from their previous game.
One of those to come into the team for the 1-0 win over Chelsea was goalkeeper David Martin, who was making his first appearance in the top flight at the age of 33.
The veteran replaced fellow netminder Roberto, who was dubbed the worst player in the club’s history by some unforgiving Hammers fans in recent days.
Pellegrini’s decision to go with Martin in goal was justified as West Ham got their first win and kept their first clean sheet since beating Manchester United back in September (as per TransferMarkt).
The 33-year-old made six saves in his team’s win over Chelsea and Alan Smith of Football London was left in “no doubt that he is a much better option than the hapless Roberto”.
Following their first win in eight Premier League games, these West Hams on Twitter hailed the performance of Martin:
We’ve gone from an unReliant Robin to an Aston Martin in goal. Antonio showed the rest how to play last week and now we have all giving their all. COYI ⚒

Funny how having an actual goalkeeper on the pitch changes a thing or two. Who would’ve thought, heh.
