Former West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce has suggested that Rafa Benitez wouldn’t have been the right fit for the Hammers.
The Spaniard has been linked with the manager’s job at the London Stadium a few times, most recently after Manuel Pellegrini was sacked in December. However, according to Football Insider, the ex-Liverpool boss rejected the opportunity to move to the Irons from his current club Dalian Yifang and they ended up re-hiring David Moyes.
Indeed, according to Allardyce, Benitez would have been the wrong man for West Ham anyway. This is mainly due to his style of play which the former England manager believes is similar to his and he was often slated by the club’s fans for it (The Guardian).
Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT (Tuesday 11th February, 07:15), Allardyce said: “I’m not sure Rafa would have been a forward step for West Ham. I always seemed to play the wrong style of football at West Ham. Rafa plays that style of football all the time. He will set a team out on the basis of the quality of the team. And West Ham doesn’t suit.”
Would Rafa Benitez fit in at West Ham?
It seems that plenty of Hammers fans actually agree with what Allardyce is saying, with many taking to Twitter to suggest that the 65-year-old is absolutely spot on. Here is what some had to say about it…
he’s spot on

Rafa would be a short term fix, just a Spanish Sam Allardyce. We need a Scott Parker type manager
