West Ham: Fans rip into Fabian Balbuena after FA Cup exit to West Brom

West Ham defender Fabian Balbuena came in for stinging criticism from a number of the club’s supporters after the Hammers crashed out of the FA Cup today.

David Moyes’ side lost 0-1 at home to West Brom, with Slaven Bilic enjoying a winning return to London Stadium, and it turned into a day that the Paraguayan centre-half would likely want to forget. Having sat out West Ham’s last two Premier League games, the 28-year-old was restored to the starting line-up for the visit of the Baggies.

However, his afternoon did not last long, with Balbuena one of three players substituted by Moyes at half-time. The defender had a poor passing accuracy rate of just 65.5%, failing to find a team-mate with 10 of his 29 passes, with only Pablo Fornals recording a lower passing success percentage for the Hammers (as per WhoScored). Football London reporter Alan Smith did not spare the Paraguayan in his player ratings, handing him a lowly four and lamenting his “sloppy passing”, adding that he was “deservedly whipped off by Moyes at the break”.

These West Ham fans on Twitter also turned on Balbuena following his display this afternoon:

Do you think Balbuena was one of West Ham’s worst players today as they were dumped out of the FA Cup? Have your say by commenting below!
