Like many sections of supporters propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern, the West Ham United fans who frequent in their droves are relatively frustrated about the summer so far.
They’ve been unable to bring anyone (outside of the free signing of Pablo Zabaleta) thus far and many of those clad in claret and blue are desperate to see Slaven Bilic’s squad strengthened.
So, even the mere sniff of a transfer rumour has our Irons excited. Indeed, reports from the Daily Mail have gone down a storm today.
They claim Burnley marksman Andre Gray has opened up as a potential target in east London this summer, following his reportedly stalling contract talks with Burnley. The forward is believed to be asking for around £70k-p/w if he is to remain at Turf Moor, despite the club’s current top earner thought to be on £35k-p/w.
The likes of Everton and Tottenham are understood to be considering £10m approaches, though the Hammers are now said to have emerged as an option. They’ve struggled to fill their central striking berth over the years and some of our east London locals believe the ex-Brentford man would be ideal to lead the line.
Considering Andy Carroll’s rather dismal injury record, the idea of seeing Gray arrive has excited our resident Hammers.
