West Ham United have to find themselves a striker or two this summer if they are to become more of a threat in the Premier League in the next campaign.

If the Hammers had a prolific forward in their line-up last season, arguably, they would have been within a chance of finishing seventh and subsequently playing in the Europa League after a fine year for English football.

It is no surprise that the transfer rumour mill has been churning out a number of names over the last month or so, however, one of the latest men thought to be a target for Manuel Pellegrini's side could turn out to be an inspired signing.

The Sun have recently claimed that West Ham are taking an interest in Tottenham Hotspur's Fernando Llorente this summer as his contract is set to expire following the Champions League final.

A number of clubs across Europe are thought to be interested in the veteran Spaniard, however, the Hammers could benefit from having him on their books next season.

Llorente should not be considered their number one attacker if he were to join, but he could be as useful for the Irons as he was for Spurs in a similar role.

He might be edging closer to the end of his career, however, the Spaniard has proved that he can still come up with the goods at vital times and can still make a positive difference at the top-level; if he is good enough for Barcelona (allegedly), then surely he is good enough for West Ham?

The 34-year-old is hugely experienced and could provide Pellegrini with an option from the substitutes bench, should the Chilean look to mix things up on the pitch.

He is the type of striker that could thrive in the system that the manager likes to adopt at the London Stadium as he is more than used to playing in a lone-striker role whilst he also has the physical presence and aerial ability to make him a threat.

Being available on a free transfer, it would have to be seen as a relatively low-risk move.

Llorente has every chance of helping West Ham go up to the next level and could, therefore, turn out to be an inspired signing for Pellegrini.
