West Ham holding out for £7m on academy graduate as Premier League duo circle

The West Ham United fans who are gathered around the pool table in The Transfer Tavern this evening are discussing reports that the club have slapped a huge fee on an in demand player.

According to Claret & Hugh, the East London club have slapped a £7m fee on defender James Tomkins.

The central defender is reportedly a target for fellow Premier League sides Crystal Palace and Sunderland this summer who are managed by a pair of ex West Ham managers in Åland Pardew and Sam Allardyce.

The 26-year old saw chances limited at the Boleyn last season due to a string of injuries and Slaven Bilic’s preference of playing both Angelo Ogbonna and Winston Reid.

It is thought that West Ham are ready to let the defender leave this summer and it will all come down to Tomkins in making the decision to move to the North East with the Black Cats or travel south in the capital with the Eagles.

The West Ham fans in The Tavern are not surprised that Tomkins is on his way out of the club and wish him well should he leave this summer.

Should Tomkins be kept on as a squad option by West Ham?
