West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern are hopeful of a big upturn in form following two consecutive defeats to start their Premier League season and many want new signings.
The Hammers have already impressed following the captures of Joe Hart, Pablo Zabaleta, Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez but boss Slaven Bilic, who’s under increasing pressure, is eyeing further additions.
The Sunderland Echo states that West Ham are considering a move for Sunderland midfielder Didier Ndong but are yet to make an official approach, with the Black Cats reportedly demanding as much as £20m.
23-year-old Ndong arrived in the North East last summer for a club-record fee from FC Lorient and his performances have not gone unnoticed, with the Gabonese midfielder impressing having played every minute of Sunderland’s campaign in the Championship over the past month.
However, Sunderland’s price-tag may well have put off West Ham and other potential suitors.
West Ham’s midfield ranks have looked lacklustre at the start of this Premier League season and Didier Ndong may well be the man to shore-up their options. In the current market, £20m isn’t a bad fee and a move should certainly be considered.
The issue is that the board may not have complete faith in Slaven Bilic following a slow start to the season, and his transfer failings last year, so a deal may be more difficult to complete than many would expect.
