Former Sunderland and Crystal Palace striker Kevin Phillips has been talking about football returning and has been speaking in particular about Jarrod Bowen at West Ham, highlighting that the player had a great start to Premier League football before the season was halted.
Bowen arrived from Championship side Hull with a lot of expectation from some Hammers fans after he scored 16 goals in the first half of this season at the Tigers before arriving in January, via Transfermarkt.
It seems like he has matched expectations and, even though he has only played four times, he has already made an impression in David Moyes’ starting XI (as per Transfermarkt).
Speaking to Football Insider about the player’s West Ham career so far, Phillips said, “I would expect him to pick up where he left off. He got a taste of what it is like there. It took a few games to get him in the side but Moyes has dealt with him well,” whilst adding that “Bowen has undoubted quality. The early signs were very good.”
It is clear to see why Phillips rates the winger highly as he scored in the 3-1 victory in the Premier League against Southampton in February and earned an impressive match rating of 8.5 on WhoScored. He is only 23, so he could be a part of this West Ham side for many years to come, and there is no reason to believe that he cannot continue the good form he had shown before the season stopped and it highlights that he had been adjusting well to the Premier League.
If he can continue to impress and bring more of an attacking influence to the Hammers, then there is no doubt that the club should be able to survive the drop, with Moyes’ team currently outside the drop zone albeit only on goal difference, via BBC Sport.
