West Ham United fans in the Transfer Tavern will be in disbelief after some sensational claims were made about their club and the possibility of a player joining them this summer.
The Hammers have been ambitious in trying to bring in a new manager following the departure of David Moyes, with the likes of Manuel Pellegrini and Paulo Fonseca both having been linked with the role.
However, they could coup a real talent on the pitch this summer if reports are to be believed, and that’s because The Irish Sun are reporting that Gianluigi Buffon could make a sensational move to the London Stadium.
The 40-year-old’s agent has stated that the Italian legend is a keen admirer of West Ham and their fans, and the locals will hope they can use it to their advantage to bring the one-time Ballon d’Or runner-up, having finished behind compatriot Fabio Cannavaro in 2006, to the capital.
Silvano Martina revealed to The Irish Sun: ‘In England, he always really admired West Ham supporters, and even wrote about it in his book.’
And these comments are sure to hugely intrigue our resident West Ham fans, who could see their side solve their evident goalkeeping concerns by moving for the 11-times Serie A champion this summer.
Landlord’s Verdict: The West Ham fans in the Tavern will be hoping this is not just a ridiculous rumour that has been made up, as many would be desperate to bring someone of Buffon’s talent to the side.
The Hammers are currently lacking in the goalkeeping department, with Joe Hart heading back to Manchester City following the conclusion of his loan deal, leaving the East London outfit with just Adrian who himself didn’t hugely convince this season.
Should they manage to convince the Italian to join them, many would feel it would be the shock signing of the summer.
