What happened to Manuel Lanzini?

The Argentine joined West Ham in their final season at Upton Park a complete unknown and within a few months had made himself a fan favourite in east London with his trickery and creativity, but injuries and a lack of form has seen Lanzini drop out of favour at the club.

To add more to Lanzini’s woes at West Ham, Manuel Pellegrini’s side have been linked with a player in the same position as the Argentine international that could render the playmaker surplus to requirements should the club complete the deal.

According to Fanatik via the Leicester Mercury, the Hammers, as well as Leicester City, are interested in AC Milan's Hakan Calhanoglu, who is likely to leave Italy at the end of the season.

The Turkish international has a reputation as one of the most entertaining attackers in European football, with Calhanoglu also recognised as one of the best set-piece takers in the game from his time in both Milan and in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen and Hamburg.

The proven number 10, who was born in Germany, will be in hot demand this summer and if West Ham can acquire the 25-year-old, it could spell the end for Lanzini in east London.

The Argentine has not been playing at the standard we have come to expect and would have a real fight on his hands should David Gold and David Sullivan sanction a move for Calhanoglu.

Lanzini might still be a fan favourite, but recent form has seen the former River Plate man miss out on claiming his place in the first-team. With Calhanoglu in the frame, things could get even bleaker.

West Ham fans, would you replace Lanzini with Calhanoglu? Let us know!
