West Ham have been extremely pro-active this summer in the hope their 13th place finish from last season can be drastically improved.
After coming under a lot of pressure to spend big, the owners have caved in and deeply strengthened West Ham’s squad. That brings a lot more hope and optimism from the Hammers fans and finally, they could have a campaign to look forward to.
Like always clubs are linked with a host of players but one West Ham could regret not pursuing is Bernard.
The Brazilian winger somehow joined Everton and that could be a damaging blow for West Ham if he turns out to be a success in the Premier League.
The Hammers reportedly didn’t match what Everton offered due to already spending a fortune on wingers Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko but should one of them get injured, Snodgrass or Antonio don’t necessarily have the technical ability that Bernard possesses.
He scored 10 goals for Shakhtar last season, a good amount for a player who largely played out on the wing.
Everton may be paying big wages and a huge signing on fee but his form will truly decide whether the hassle and wages are worth it.
The 25-year-old could have also been used as a second striker or as an attacking midfielder, roles that would have been good to strengthen with one player.
After all the hard work the West Ham board put into investing in top quality players, they may have missed a trick with free agent Bernard. The Brazilian is likely to be on show in the Premier League, let’s just hope Hammers aren’t gutted if the winger goes onto be a top performer this season.
Will West Ham regret not moving for Bernard… Let us know!
