A Bola (with the information all acquired through Sport Witness) seem to know something about Moussa Marega’s next steps and West Ham United appears to be where he is headed.
The Portuguese newspaper mentioned towards the end of last month that he would definitely be heading to the London Stadium this summer – going as far to say that the Hammers was the ‘destination’ for the Mali hitman.
And, it seems they have followed up that story this month, as well by stating that they have already received information from the player himself about where he will be going and that club is… you guessed it, West Ham.
They have added to the claim that the Hammers are ‘waving a €35million (£31.4m) offer’ at Porto for the 28-year-old this summer.
Now, as we once mentioned in an article previously on Transfer Tavern, there will always be doubt until a player is shown holding the shirt of the club in a photo op, but A Bola certainly appear to be rather confident about this one.
It is not the first time Marega’s name has been in the press regarding a move to West Ham though, as Foot Mercato, claimed the Porto forward is believed to be a ‘Plan B’ option and the Hammers were thought to be ‘concretely positioned’ for the striker.
But, whatever way you decide to look at the news reports and the validity of them, it would be difficult to argue against the forward being a great addition at the London Stadium.
There is no denying his quality in front of goal. Marega has been in rich goalscoring form for the last two seasons whilst with Porto, having recorded goal tallies of 23 in 2017/18 (Transfermarkt) and 21 in 2018/19 (Transfermarkt) in those campaigns.
According to stats collected by WhoScored, he managed an average of 3.2 shots in Liga NOS last season, which resulted in 11 of his goals. Providing a total of seven assists as well, opposition defenders seem to have found it difficult to get the ball off of him as they only managed to dispossess him an average of 1.6 times and resorted to fouling him 1.5 times.
Indeed, the Mali international would seemingly fit the playing style and system that Pellegrini likes to adopt, with WhoScored reporting that a 4-1-4-1 formation was deployed the most (18) times by the Chilean last season. Well, considering Marega’s obvious strength when looking at how relatively little he was dispossessed last season, as well as the fact 17 of his goals last season came as a central striker, it does seem like a fairly natural fit.
Whether there is any credibility to the reports from A Bola may have to remain to be seen, however, if Marega does arrive, West Ham could have a forward ideal for the system.
