West Ham are seeing encouraging signs under Manuel Pellegrini despite not making the best start to the season.
If there was any manager who has the CV to improve West Ham as a club, Premier League winning Pellegrini is that man. The Chilean is a winner and although the Hammers won’t be expected to win anything this season, they will be hoping for improvements on their 13th place finish last season.
In what could have been an utterly disastrous season, West Ham relied on Marko Arnautovic and a late surge of form to stay in the top flight. This season, they have spent big in the hope that fighting relegation won’t be a concern anymore but to complete their side, they need to invest in a quality up-and-coming defensive midfielder like Thiago Maia, who is valued at £3.6 million on Transfermarkt.
Having been previously linked with the Brazilian, West Ham must identify that one of their weaknesses is still the lack of a proper defensive midfielder.
The 21-year-old would be more than an adequate job by just sitting in-front of the back four, protecting and clearing any danger that may cause concern to West Ham.
A combination of Mark Noble and Jack Wilshere is one full of commitment but not quite the athletic ability required for a midfielder in the Premier League. Thiago Maia has proven that in his short but quick rise to the top of the football game, he is a player capable of covering tremendous amounts of ground and that could be a real asset and a major part as to how the Hammers can be successful this season.
