West Ham remain bottom of the Premier League table with zero points from their opening four fixtures.
The pressure was already on after Manuel Pellegrini failed to pick up a single point against Liverpool, Arsenal and Bournemouth ahead of the visit from Wolves at the weekend. The Hammers were poor again, and their defensive woes continued as Adama Traore was allowed to smash home an injury-time winner at the London Stadium. Despite their horrid start, Pellegrini’s job is reportedly safe for the time being.
While their defence will be a huge concern, the performances of Javier Hernandez will also be worrying for Hammers fans. The Mexican forward has started just one game so far this season after netting only eight goals in 28 appearances following his move from Bayer Leverkusen last summer. If West Ham are to get themselves out of danger, they need to find a regular goal scorer.
One man they should target in January is Porto forward – Moussa Marega. Valued at £17.1m by Transfermarkt, the 27-year-old was reportedly targeted by the club earlier in the summer after netting 22 goals in Liga NOS last season. However, Porto were unwilling to accept anything less than £36m for their prized asset meaning West Ham instead opted to sign Lucas Perez. With the club now in a precarious position, they need to splash the cash to address their slump.
The forward netted his first goal of the season against Moreirense at the weekend and reports in Portugal suggested he was desperate to complete a move to the London Stadium. Marega would give the West Ham fans the 20-goal season striker they have been crying out for and hand Pellegrini the firepower he needs to start their ascent up the table.
He won’t be cheap, but this is a move the club simply need to make.
West Ham fans, thoughts?
