West Ham: Offering Andy Carroll a new deal is stupid

West Ham: Offering Andy Carroll a new deal is stupid

Sometimes letting go could be a rather good thing, no matter how hard it may be; West Ham United should take note.

The summer presents a football club with plenty of opportunities to make changes, either by freshening up the dressing room with new faces or shifting on the deadwood that has been burning a hole in the club’s finances for next-to-no reward.

Andy Carroll is one of those men that fall into the latter category, as he has been rather anonymous at times for the London Stadium outfit. Injury after injury has plagued his time in east London and has seen his appearances extremely limited; leaving us to think it would not be too harsh to say that they sometimes feel like a flying visit.

The former England international’s contract is up in the summer, presenting West Ham (and him) with the perfect opportunity to start again and wish each other well with their future endeavours.

However, it appears the Hammers could be about to shoot themselves in the foot!

According to a report by The Sun, Pellegrini’s side are considering to offer the 30-year-old a new contract that would be structured differently to the one he has at the moment. Well considering he has earned millions in wages from the club since joining from Liverpool in 2013 for doing next-to-nothing, it bloody well should be!

Carroll might have been a servant to the club, albeit from a hospital bed (okay, that might be a slight exaggeration but it is not too far from the truth), however, this summer is the perfect time to call it quits, shake hands and move on.

West Ham are in a completely different place to where they were in 2013 when he signed for them and would be better off using the money they can save by offloading him and put it towards a high-profile striker that can take them to the next stage of their ambitious plans.

Even if they were unable to sign a new forward (god forbid!), Pellegrini already has a number of better options available to him, so surely keeping Carroll at the club would be no more than for sentimental reasons and one that would just turn out to be a disastrous mistake.

West Ham, just move on. As hard as it may be, just do it.

West Ham fans, what do you think about the Carroll situation? Do you think the club should just let him leave or give him another go? Let us know below!
