West Ham planning big summer move for 25-goals-in-31-games striker

West Ham’s striker search last summer saw Hammers fans mocked in the Transfer Tavern with the London club seemingly switching targets more often than our landlord changes his underwear!

Eventually, they were forced to settle for a loan move for Simone Zaza – we all know how that went – and their need for a top-class centre-forward remains strong.

So Bleacher Report’s revelation that Anthony Modeste is a wanted man at West Ham has been greeted with real intrigue.

‘Didn’t he flop at Blackburn once upon a time?’ was the response from a group of cackling Spurs supporters, and while their jibe is true – he was there on loan in 2012 – the Frenchman has been one of Europe’s elite goal-getters this term, notching 25 times in 31 outings for Cologne in Germany, 23 of which have come in Bundesliga action.

And Bleacher Report claim that West Ham are ready to revive their interest after failed moves for the 28-year-old both last summer and in January.

Slaven Bilic, whom they say has been assured he’ll still be in charge next term, wants the player, and it’s fair to suggest that his goalscoring touch would boost an Irons team that has no player on double figures in terms of finding the net this term in league action.

Anthony Modeste is the perfect striker for West Ham – agree?
