West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern have expressed their concerns after another disappointing defeat, with Liverpool smashing four past a sorry Hammers side yesterday.
Slaven Bilic’s side’s debut season at the London Stadium has certainly been one to forget and the Hammers are under intense pressure to improve their ranks this season, which has led them to be linked with an extremely ambitious move.
The Sun states West Ham are expressing an interest in Napoli star Dries Mertens and will rival the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea for the Belgian’s signature, amidst suggestions he could be tempted by a £20m Premier League move.
Mertens has excelled for the Naples outfit this season, scoring 25 Serie A goals and securing 10 assists in 33 appearances, raising the 30-year-old’s profile significantly ahead of the World Cup next summer- where he’ll eye success with Roberto Martinez’ Red Devils.
However, luring the veteran forward to West Ham would be an extremely difficult task and our landlord feels that Champions League football is a necessity for any side making an offer this summer, which leaves West Ham’s hopes of securing a deal looking significantly slim.
Our landlord thinks this piece of transfer gossip is questionable, but thinks it would be one hell of a coup if the Hammers were able to secure such a deal in the summer.
Is there any chance of Mertens moving to West Ham this summer? Let us know in the comments below!
