West Ham preparing shock Barcelona deal

West Ham fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have spent the day avidly discussing whether or not they feel that the latest player they have been linked with would be brilliant business or a bad move by manager, Slaven Bilic.

Our Spanish barmen has pointed out reports on Sport, a website from his home country, which are claiming that after having rejected an offer from Roma, Barcelona are awaiting a formal offer from West Ham for Thomas Vermaelen.

Upon his return from international duty with Belgium at Euro 2016, the former Arsenal man informed the Catalan giants that he wants to leave the Nou Camp after a dismal two year spell in La Liga.

Since making the move from Arsenal in 2014, the 30-year-old has only made 15 appearances for Barca, scoring one goal.

Following the signing of French defender Samuel Umtiti, the Belgian international’s position in Luis Enrique’s side will have been further reduced and now could be the perfect time to move away.

The Hammers have reportedly declared an interest but have not yet made a formal approach for the defender, who is valued at £10m by his current club.

Irons fans, we want to hear from you! Do you think Vermaelen would be a good fit in Bilic’s side? Let us know in the comments below…
