West Ham have faced an awful start to their Premier League campaign, though a much-needed win against Everton on Sunday was just what the doctor ordered.
Still, Manuel Pellegrini will have to quickly get used to the feeling of helplessness, having not been equipped with world-class players like he had when with Manchester City and Real Madrid.
This West Ham team pose a real challenge for the Chilean and one he is in danger of suffering from should results not go his way in the next few outings.
Despite spending north of £100 million, the Hammers still have numerous problems and especially in the middle of the park, where the defence find themselves without protection and goals continue to leak because of it.
Recruitment has been dodgy to say the least for West Ham over the last few seasons but exploring another league for talent like the Italian Serie A, for example, could unveil some hidden gems.
The Hammers have had their fair share of transfers from the Serie A and few have honestly worked out successfully however the addition of Nicolo Barella would only go one way.
Barello, (who is valued at £22.5 million on Transfermarkt) is a top midfielder in peak condition and form, meaning that West Ham’s midfield woes could soon be forgotten with him in the middle of the park. Indeed, during the win up at Goodison, the fact their midfield played well in a three should prompt the club to sign someone who can help develop that further.
The 21-year-old midfielder is the type to stretch his legs and become a box-to-box man for your team, something that West Ham don’t have after selling Cheikhou Kouyate, who was their only midfielder who could also perform that role.
He is a ball carrier and one that likes to be creative, demonstrated by his six goals last season in the league. West Ham already seem to be heading towards trouble, this tremendous Italian signing would direct them right away from danger.
