According to a recent report from The Daily Mirror, Aaron Ramsey could be set for a move away in the near future. The 27-year-old currently plays his football at Premier League side Arsenal and has done so since 2008, in which time the midfielder has proven his worth to the Gunners in netting 59 goals and laying on 59 assists in 338 appearances for the club.

Yet reports suggest that the Wales international is no nearer to agreeing a contract extension with Unai Emery’s side, and with his current deal set to expire in the summer, he could be available on a cut-price deal in January, or indeed for free come the end of the season.

And after the huge amount of ambition Manuel Pellegrini’s West Ham showed during the summer, they must seek to replicate that by launching a move for the £40.5 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt).

The Breakdown

Ultimately, the Hammers stumbled to a 13th place finish last season in the Premier League and the expectation was that manager David Moyes would get the job on a permanent basis, only for the owners to let the Scot go and instead replace him with former Manchester City boss Pellegrini.

That itself showed genuine ambition, and the East London outfit then backed that up by making some big-name signings during the close season, what with the likes of Felipe Anderson, Andriy Yarmolenko, and Jack Wilshere making the move to the London Stadium.

And with Ramsey potentially available, they must seek to show that level of ambition again by making a move for the 27-year-old, who would no doubt add a great deal to West Ham’s midfield options.

The Welshman may not have always shown his best for Arsenal during his decade-long stint in North London, but the 27-year-old was excellent last season in netting 11 goals and laying on 12 assists for the Gunners, thus earning him the club’s Player of the Season award.

And having exceeded the ten-goal mark in two of his other seasons at the Emirates Stadium, Ramsey is an accomplished and proven performer at Premier League level, and would surely be a huge asset to Pellegrini were he to move across the capital to East London.

And if the Hammers are serious about bridging the gap to the division’s top clubs and thus competing for European football in the coming years, these are the sort of signings they have to make - it’s all well and good doing it in one transfer window, but sustained ambition is what it’s going to take for West Ham to progress up the Premier League table.

Thus, with Ramsey seemingly on his way out of Arsenal in the near future, Pellegrini’s Hammers must replicate their summer ambition by launching a move for the 27-year-old.
