West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern are pleased to see their club is getting down to business early, with major developments made across the board.
The Hammers were handed a boost before the season ended as Michail Antonio signed a new deal and Manuel Lanzini played down the chances of an exit, before the future of manager Slaven Bilic was assured this week.
West Ham are ready to strengthen their ranks in the summer market and many in the bar believe the defence should be a priority, which has left them pleased with reports from The Sun that state West Ham and West Brom are the front-runners in a deal for Chris Smalling.
Jose Mourinho is prepared to offload the England international this summer as he looks to rejuvenate his defensive lines at Manchester United and West Ham are amongst the favourites for a deal, although they face competition from West Brom.
Smalling stands as surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and the player will likely be keen on a move to secure regular first-team action ahead of the World Cup next summer, as our landlord believes he has a lot to do to secure a spot in Gareth Southgate’s starting line-up.
Would Smalling be a decent addition to West Ham’s defence? Let us know in the comments below!
