West Ham fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have been rather uncomfortable today as news is filtering in that they may struggle to hold onto one of their stars this summer.
Quotes from West Ham co-owner, David Gold, are the source of the concern for Hammers fans in bar today. Speaking about the future of Euro 2016 star, Dimitri Payet, gold told The Sun:
“We’ll fight tooth and nail to make sure Dimitri pulls on a claret and blue shirt next season.
“We want to improve our squad and Dimitri is an integral part of what we’re trying to do. But we also must be realistic. If Barcelona or Real Madrid made a bid and he wanted to move there, it would be difficult to keep him.”
According to reports, Payet – valued at £45m – is also being targeted by Inter Milan and fellow London club, Chelsea, with incoming boss, Antonio Conte looking to add to his squad before the coming season.
However, David Gold has remained defiant, and has used his usual platform, Twitter, to calm the nerves of fans. When asked whether or not the club would accept a bid for the 29-year-old, he replied:
I have always said, we do not welcome any bid for Dimitri Payet. dg https://t.co/4sA1RH6eor
