West Ham taking big steps to avoid big name departure

According to The Sun, West Ham are going to award Dimitri Payet a huge new contract in an attempt to stop Manchester United trying to sign him.

The Frenchman has been the star of the West Ham show more often than not since his summer move from Marseille in 2015 with him scoring a number of ludicrous goals last year on the way to the club finishing seventh.

This season has been a little more difficult, though, with our Irons fans here in the Transfer Tavern simply dumbfounded about how they can still be near the relegation zone at this point of the season.

Indeed, they have performed well of late but have just let things slide at crucial times and that has caused many by the bar to wonder if their best player could be on his way out.

The report believes, however, that the Frenchman will be offered a £125,000 a week deal to stay with the club and extent his stay in east London instead of moving north to Old Trafford.

West Ham earned a point last time out in the league against United and will face Arsenal this weekend.

Will the new deal be enough to keep Payet Hammers fans? Let us know below…
