It’s a big day for the West Ham United fans in the Transfer Tavern.
Indeed, the Hammers host bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur this lunchtime and the punters propping up our bar are confident about a win, holding a good record over Spurs at home in recent seasons.
One man crucial to their chances, Andy Carroll, has been in the news today. As reported by the Daily Mail, Slaven Bilic has revealed the towering marksman needs to prove his fitness on a consistent basis if he’s to earn a new deal at the London Stadium.
The 28-year-old has two years left to run on his deal in east London and is reportedly approaching the kind of time where a new one would be discussed, though his manager has hinted any extension would be down to fitness.
”This is his season to be fit, to stay fit,” said Bilic.
”’He’s got two years (on his current contract). If we are talking about his contract, the question mark about him is his fitness, how much he is available during the season.”
Our punters clad in claret and blue are inclined to agree here. A popular figure amongst the support, few strikers in the Premier League can offer the same qualities as the former Newcastle United and Liverpool star. However, his sheer amount of injuries often make him too much of a burden.
