West Ham are seeking to strengthen their defence in the summer transfer window as reports have suggested that they are keen to bring in Connor Goldson.
According to Football Insider, the 27-year-old Rangers defender is attracting a lot of interest from the Hammers as well as Leeds United, but Ibrox manager Steven Gerrard hopes that the £6m price tag might be enough to deter clubs from submitting a bid for the player.
Would you like the club to sign Connor Goldson?
The English centre-back stands at 6 ft 3 and has kept 15 clean sheets 29 appearances in the Scottish Premiership this term, via Transfermarkt, which is a fine defensive record for the campaign.
This perhaps highlights that the commanding centre-back could add some much-needed steel to a Hammers defence that has conceded 50 goals in the Premier League this campaign, which is the fourth worst in the division, as well as only keeping six clean sheets all season.
This is a large reason as to why West Ham find themselves 16th in England’s top flight and level on points with Bournemouth in the relegation zone, via SofaScore.
It would be a cost-effective signing for the east London club and it is a relatively low-risk option to try and strengthen their defence so that, if they stay up, they should have a stronger backbone to help them push for an improved Premier League finish in 2020/21.
