West Ham have received a positive update regarding transfer target Guillermo Maripan, who has recently been speaking about his future, and he looks to be an ideal centre-back for the club.
The Chile international currently plays in the French league for AS Monaco, and was recently linked with the Hammers and their London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, via AS.
These rumours have then been supported by comments from the player himself, who was speaking to Al Aire Libre back in Chile. Through this media outlet he said: “Personally I have always liked the Premier League a lot. I have always wanted to play there, so I am aiming there.”
The fact that he has stated that he would like to play in England’s top flight must have been a great thing to hear for the owners at the Irons, and the 26 year-old could be a potential replacement for the highly rated Issa Diop, who has been linked with moves to Premier League sides like Arsenal, as well as Atletico Madrid.
Maripan has impressed this season in Ligue 1, where he has made 2.1 tackles and 1.3 interceptions per game, via WhoScored, as well as making 3.3 clearances per top flight match.
With West Ham sitting 16th in the Premier League and only two points away from the relegation zone, via BBC Sport, Diop might be attracted to one of the teams linked to him and look to make a move in the summer. So if the Irons are able to attract Maripan and beat Spurs to the signing, then they could have an ideal replacement judging by his stats from this season. He could help push them up the table and aim for a top half finish in the next campaign.
Hammers fans, would this be a good signing? Comment below!
