West Ham United reportedly have their eyes set on defender Vitaliy Mykolenko, but face competition from Napoli and Olympique de Marseille, according to AreaNapoli.
Mykolenko is reportedly valued at around £13.5 million and Hammers boss David Moyes is keen to improve the defensive quality of the back four ahead of the 2020/21 season.
The 20-year-old left back currently plays for Dynamo Kyiv in his home nation of Ukraine and has featured 30 times this campaign, keeping 11 clean sheets, per Transfermarkt.
As well as contributing defensively, he also looks to possess an attacking threat too as he has scored three times and managed to get seven assists as well.
He is also highly rated by Ukrainian legend and former Ballon d’Or winner Andriy Shevchenko, who recommended the player to Serie A side AC Milan earlier this year according to Sky Italia.
This signing could be a great bit of business if the Irons could pull it off. Their current full-backs have not been great of late, Aaron Cresswell is the starting left-back but has been average at best and Arthur Masuaku has come in at times but has had to settle for a place on the bench for large parts of the season, per WhoScored.
Neither has pulled up any trees when they have played. Indeed, Cresswell has made two errors leading to a shot and averages just 1.6 tackles per game, whilst also losing possession a whopping 17.6 times per match (SofaSc0re). Meanwhile, Masuaku wins possession just 0.2 times per game on average, whilst he is also dribbled past once and gives the ball away 12.2 times (SofaScore).
Bringing in a young defender like Mykolenko whose statistics show that he can be useful in both attack and defence may be a brilliant move by Moyes and he could prove to be a perfect replacement for their current, underperforming, left-backs.
The fact that European sides Napoli and Marseille are also keeping tabs on the player as well highlights his quality, and the Hammers should be trying their best to sign the Ukrainian.
