West Ham United are keen on signing Stoke City midfielder Joe Allen if they can negotiate a reasonable price for the Welshman, that is according to The Guardian reporter Jacob Steinberg.
Are West Ham too good for Joe Allen?
There have been varying reports in the media about how much the 29-year-old would cost, with the Telegraph suggesting that the Potters would want £7 million whilst the Daily Mail reported that it would cost £15 million to prize Allen away from the bet365 Stadium.
Allen has been a regular at Stoke in the Championship this season, featuring 24 times and scoring three goals (Transfermarkt).
Added to that he also has 199 Premier League appearances under his belt (Transfermarkt) and so would add experience to the Hammers’ squad.
It appears that West Ham fans are divided on whether or not Allen would be a good signing. Some feel that he would be a decent addition to the squad for the right price, whilst others simply think that he isn’t good enough.
Here is what some said on Twitter…
If we can get him for £2m or less, good deal. Anything else, too much money for a player who is struggling in the championship

Id sooner my mum had a go in midfield than Allen. Shows appalling lack of ambition by the club.

Squad player at best West Ham need better a player to build around and Joe Allen ain’t that

He would be a lot more value for money than Sanchez or Wilshere, would be a good replacement for either of these, but not an upgrade on Rice or Noble imo.

Better than Sanchez and very similar to Noble but slightly younger no complaints from me.
