Plenty of West Ham United supporters are beginning to fear relegation to the Championship following Tuesday’s Premier League results, as one supporter added their transfer failings have accelerated the ‘demise towards the Championship’.
The Hammers themselves were not in action, but several of their relegation rivals were. And things certainly tightened up at the bottom as two clubs in the relegation zone prior to kick-off managed to win.
Aston Villa claimed a dramatic 2-1 victory against Watford at Villa Park, with Tyrone Mings scoring in the 95th minute to steal all three points (BBC Sport). AFC Bournemouth also managed to pick up a win, comfortably beating south coast rivals Brighton & Hove Albion 3-1 at the Vitality Stadium (BBC Sport).
Added to that, Southampton picked up a 2-0 win away at Crystal Palace (BBC Sport) whilst Newcastle United came from two down to draw 2-2 with Everton (BBC Sport) which put further distance between those two clubs and the bottom three.
All of those results mean that West Ham have now dropped down to 17th place in the Premier League table, level on points with both Watford and Bournemouth who are in the bottom three (BBC Sport). David Moyes’ side do have a couple of games in hand, although they are against leaders Liverpool and third-placed Leicester City.
After seeing their rivals pick up wins last night, many West Ham fans now feel that their club is going to drop into the Championship. They can’t see a way out of it for the east London outfit, with several blaming their owners for the predicament they are in.
Here is what some had to say on Twitter…
I can’t see 3 worse teams than us in the league. Getting no new players inside this transfer window simply accelerates our demise towards the championship.
