Fans have been reacting Jack Wilshere’s comments regarding his playing time when speaking to Sky Sports.
Can West Ham make the top six?
Wilshere hasn’t featured, perhaps, as much as he would’ve liked so far this season for West Ham United having only played 47 minutes of Premier League football since the first two league games of the season, of which he started both.
The 27-year-old has managed two more lengthy starts in the EFL Cup, but since the 4-0 defeat at the hands of Oxford United, his chance to further flourish in the competition this season has passed him by.
On his game time, Wilshere said: “I want to be playing but I understand as well that I’ve come back from a long injury.
“I think the good thing about West Ham at the minute, which they probably haven’t had in previous years is, in each position there’s two good players so you have to be working hard in training, when you get your opportunity you have to take it and then hopefully the manager sticks with you.”
The Hammers do have strength in depth they have arguably lacked in recent years. Indeed, it is unfortunate for Wilshere that he finds himself battling against club captain Mark Noble for the role next to Declan Rice in deep midfield. As Noble has started the past six league games, it seems Wilshere has his work cut out to bag a starting spot in the near future.
Even further forward, the likes of Felipe Anderson, Manuel Lanzini and Andriy Yarmolenko are all averaging over 1 key pass per game (per WhoScored) so the battle for a starting berth does look difficult.
