West Ham United have made a bid for Genk right-back Joakim Maehle, that is according to club insider @ExWHUemployee.
The club are short in that position due to an injury to Ryan Fredericks, leaving them with just 35-year-old Pablo Zabaleta as their only senior right-back so it would make sense for them to try and bring another in before the transfer deadline. Maehle has been a regular for the Belgian outfit this season, starting 20 times in the league and providing a decent attacking output by laying on four assists in that time (Transfermarkt).
Added to that, the Danish under-21 international has also shown that he has defensive capabilities too by averaging 3.3 tackles, 1.7 interceptions and 1.3 clearances per game in his six Champions League appearances this term (via WhoScored).
He would fit the profile of player that manager David Moyes has claimed he wants to sign for West Ham, young players with potential but also with some experience behind them too (Evening Standard). Maehle ticks both of those boxes as he is just 22-years-old, but has already made 136 senior appearances from his time at Genk and his previous club Aalborg (Transfermarkt).
It seems that he would certainly be a popular signing amongst the Hammers fans, many of whom have taken to Twitter to express how much they rate him and that he would be a good addition. Here is what some had to say…
Very happy with that!!

As a Dane I rarely want to see them in a hammers shirt because I am rarely convinced of their ability, but I actually really like mæhle👍

Yeees!!😍 He is amazing, but would probably take quite an offer. What do you reckon the prospect of this happening is??

Maehle would be solid

Mæhle will fit perfectly into a 3-4-2-1. Ogbonna, Reid, Diop – Cresswell/Masuaku, Rice, Soucek, Mæhle – Fornals/Anderson/Wilshere/Lanzini behind Haller or Antonio.
