Some West Ham United fans didn’t exactly react in the way those in control of the club’s Twitter account may have wanted while revealing the results in the Hammers’ Goals of the Decade poll.
Should West Ham cash in on Felipe Anderson?
After announcing Dimitri Payet’s physics-defying free-kick against Crystal Palace in 2016 as the runner-up in a look at their best strikes over the past 10 years, many fans were upset as the nostalgia seemed to evoke memories of a happier time.
With the club having moved to the London Stadium in the months following Payet’s stunner, the Hammers are currently fighting against relegation with the club heading into the new year in 17th place and having hardly moved forward since sealing a path into Europe during Slaven Bilic’s first campaign in charge.
As his successor David Moyes prepares to begin his second spell at the club in the new year, the general feeling from supporters was that they miss the talent of Payet as well as their beloved Upton Park – with one fan labelling the move ‘an own goal’.
And while there was deserved recognition for the strike from almost four years ago, the fans seemed to illustrate the gloomy atmosphere surrounding the club at present:
I’m not crying you are.

I wonder if he brought into the same “next level” lies as we all did from the owners – and that’s why he wanted out

Was moving to the London stadium the own goal of the decade?
