West Ham United manager David Moyes is eyeing up a potential loan bid for Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley, that is according to a report from the Daily Mirror.
The two of course previously worked together at Everton and the report suggests that Moyes is keen for a reunion at the London Stadium this month. It is thought though that Chelsea aren’t too keen on loaning out the 26-year-old as they insist that he remains an important part of their first-team plans.
However, game time has been limited for the attacking midfielder of late and he has started just one of their last 13 fixtures in the Premier League, although he did miss six of those due to injury (Transfermarkt). With Euro 2020 on the horizon, Barkley will be keen to cement his position in Gareth Southgate’s squad so Moyes will hope that the promise of more regular action helps him sign the player.
A more attacking minded central midfield is certainly something that the Hammers could do with, given that between them Mark Noble, Declan Rice, Carlos Sanchez and Jack Wilshere have just three goals and two assists in the top flight this term (Transfermarkt). Barkley would certainly add creativity and a goal threat, last season he scored three league goals and claimed five assists despite starting just 13 times in the league (Transfermarkt).
It seems that the England international would certainly be a popular signing amongst the West Ham fanbase, many of whom have taken to Twitter to suggest that he would be a top addition for the club. Here is what some had to say…
