Queens Park Rangers have announced that Jordan Hugill is their Player of the Month for August.
This comes in his first month of a season-long loan spell at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium from West Ham United, having become a castaway back in East London.
Hugill has never got much of a chance at West Ham after signing from Preston North End in January 2018, as he has only played 22 minutes of competitive football across three games, as per Transfermarkt.
He ended up on loan at Middlesbrough for the entirety of last season, managing 42 games across all competitions, getting a total of seven goals and two assists – nothing groundbreaking to suggest he could come back and make an impact for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.
However, something seems to have clicked for him at QPR, as he is already close to matching last season’s tally, having scored five goals in just six games – this comes after his brace against Sheffield Wednesday handed QPR the win and makes him the league’s joint-top goalscorer.
It has been a superb start to the season for the 27-year-old, with the Player of the Month award adding a little more glamour to that.
It is good to see Hugill getting off to a good start to the season, especially when it is considered how much he has struggled since moving to London Stadium.
Despite this, there is surely still a long way for him to prove that he can be a player Pellegrini utilises in claret and blue going forward.
