West Ham United fans here in the Tavern are pleased with their sides transfer window business, as news even filtered through of another addition this morning.
David Moyes has never failed to bring happiness to the faces of the claret and blue supporters this season and he’s the club’s saviour after taking them from relegation trouble to now sitting pretty four points off the dreaded drop zone. Indeed, after suffering a triple injury blow with Andy Carroll, Manuel Lanzini and Marko Arnautovic all spending time out on the sidelines, it’s been the introduction of a couple of youth players that’s brought about some positive results in recent times. And, this looks long to continue for the Hammers, as official confirmation from West Ham United announced that they’d managed to sign highly-rated Non-League striker Oladapo Afolayan on a three-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
In a striker position that’s cost the Hammers dearly so far this season, it doesn’t look as if he’ll be the man to take them forward. Although, he will be joining up with the U23 squad in the hope that he can replicate some of the deadly goalscoring talents displayed during his days in Non-League football. And, in a West Ham United youth setup that’s seen Declan Rice, Toni Martinez and Reece Oxford all rewarded for their efforts in the academy, there’s the incentive to progress and impress for the 21-year-old.
“It’s a dream come true”
“I’ve worked hard to get here and I’m grateful for the opportunity.”
“Now, the opportunity has come to join a Premier League club and West Ham is one which has always given youngsters opportunities to come through, as we have seen this season, so I’ve come here to get into the first team and make a name for myself.”
There’s no doubt that their new signing is highly-rated in Non-League football, and after seeing the progression of players within the West Ham United youth academy you wouldn’t be surprised if he went on to become a star. Nevertheless, a promising investment into the future of the club in a position that the Hammers definitely need strengthening in, so the youngster will now be looking to work his socks off in order to be rewarded with a chance in the first-team.
