Football Insider have suggested that West Ham United pair Manuel Pellegrini and Mario Husillos are split in their opinion of Roberto.
While Pellegrini sees the Spaniard as superior to David Martin, feeling he has good shot-stopping, the Chilean is concerned by the Spaniard’s poor kicking and lack of flexibility.
In contrast, Husillos is confident of Roberto’s ability, having pushed to sign the 33-year-old during the summer transfer window.
The focus on Roberto comes as he is likely to be the man filling the sticks for the Hammers while Lukasz Fabianski is out injured.
The Poland international will be out for up to three months after coming off against AFC Bournemouth with a hip injury, as reported by The Guardian.
Many fans have been left concerned by the fact West Ham will now likely be relying on Roberto to keep the ball out of the net for the foreseeable future, with his performance against Oxford United being a particular reference point.
There are so many worrying signs for West Ham regarding their goalkeeping situation at the moment, with the split in opinion from within being added onto the end of the list.
The Hammers’ upcoming fixtures are against Crystal Palace, Everton, Sheffield United, Newcastle United and Burnley – these previously would have been seen as realistically winnable games assessing the Premier League table, though this could now turn out to be a costly period if Roberto is unable to step up.
Is this West Ham's best side of the Premier League era?
