When West Ham United came out at half-time, already 2-0 down against Newcastle United, a response will have been expected, or at least hoped for, by many.
The quick start to the half so many desired didn’t come from the men in claret and blue, in fact, the complete opposite happened, as they went down by one more after just five minutes of the second period:
Shelvey scores a third for Newcastle. #WHUNEW 0-3 (50)
— West Ham United (@WestHam) November 2, 2019
The goal came via a Jonjo Shelvey free-kick from range, which slipped through Roberto’s fingers, as shown in the highlights video on the Sky Sports Football YouTube channel.
Many Hammers fans were left fearing the worst following the goal, not just for the game but also the entire season, especially with Lukasz Fabianski remaining out injured.
Some fans bemoaned the ‘next level’ comments that have come from the club in the past, while others even suggested the team could be in for a relegation battle.
A selection of Twitter reaction to the goal, including posts from concerned West Ham fans, can be seen below:
I mean at this point I just give up

Looking forward to the official site posting more clips of days gone by to try and make us forget about the current dross. Then you’ll post something like ‘we go again’ before the next game.. As if that’s alright. Feel sorry for everyone who went today. Next level? No chance!

My spidey senses are tingling, I’m sensing another relegation battle

Shambles. Don’t understand zaba over Fredericks. Truly miss Fabianski, Antonio would be great to put pressure on the front players. No one is fighting for a place I this team and it shows.

Awful team is this – more soft centred than a pack of rolos – season isn’t done – have you seen the fixtures coming up we are in for a relegation fight and none of them know where their spine is
