West Ham United: Many fans were over the moon to see Winston Reid’s return to action

Winston Reid made his return to action on Wednesday, starting West Ham United under-23s’ 3-2 loss against Wolfsburg II, as was revealed on the club’s official Twitter account.
The 31-year-old went on to play 64 minutes, with the major positive that he went through his time on the pitch unscathed, as per The West Ham Way.
This has been a long time in waiting, as Reid hasn’t played a competitive game since coming off in the 27th minute of a 4-1 loss against Swansea City in March 2018, as per TransferMarkt.
The U23s are back in Premier League International Cup action tonight against Wolfsburg ‘B’.

With this in mind, many Hammers fans were delighted to see him back on the pitch, even if it was for the under-23s, with plenty of them sending him encouraging messages in the replies to the team announcement.
The game eventually resulted in the young Hammers’ second loss of the campaign, but there will be a lot of satisfaction with the veteran defender having had a runout.
A selection of Twitter reaction to the announcement, including posts from delighted West Ham fans, can be seen below:
