West Ham United receive initial bid of £40 million from reigning Champions League holders

payet342West Ham United have received a bid of £40 million from Real Madrid for their star player Dmitri Payet, according to the Twitter account of Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli.

The tweet claims that the Spanish giants have made the initial bid for the Frenchman and it also includes add-ons taking the deal to a whopping £55 million, based on his performances.

The West Ham United fans here in the Transfer Tavern have caught wind of the tweet and are having none of it, stating that Payet is worth much more and Real Madrid should either put up or shut up.

The Hammers will probably look to recoup more than the initial £40 million that has been offered, especially considering the player’s sublime form at the ongoing Euro 2016 tournament in which France are due to play Republic of Ireland in the last 16.

One West Ham fan is sat chatting to the landlord and he believes that the Hammers should do all they can to persuade Payet to stick around, if just for one more year.

West Ham fans, would you welcome the departure of Payet? Who could replace the star?
