Anthony Scully certainly caught the eye in September, winning the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award, having scored 8 goals, as reported by West Ham United's official website.

The 20-year-old Irishman and his goals were a vital component of the 16-game winning streak the U21s went on, before losing 4-3 to Cheltenham Town in the EFL Trophy.

Scully has also given a good showing of himself in that competition, giving an indication he could potentially make the step up to senior football, when he scored twice to help the U21s earn a 5-4 win against Newport County.

West Ham's former Director of Youth Development, Tony Carr, is one of the people that Scully has worked with during his time in the club's academy.

Speaking to We Are West Ham on the Love Sport Radio West Ham fan show, Carr gave his thoughts on Scully: "I think at the beginning of the season he was finding it hard to get in the team, he'd been a long period injured and now he's having a settled spell in the team and he's scoring goals.

"He's always had an eye for a goal and he's always had that little bit extra that you need sometimes in and around the box and can score something different.

"I've got high hopes for him, maybe the next step for him may be a loan, to go out like Grady [Diangana] did, doing terrifically well at West Brom and I think Anthony Scully, to go out on loan, would be a really big plus for him in January, if he's not in the first-team - once he plays against the men in league football, you find out whether they can cope with it or not."

Scully is showing how exciting a talent he can be with his performances and Carr's comments suggest this was perhaps only a matter of time.

With Sebastien Haller, Albian Ajeti and Xande Silva ahead of the 20-year-old in the pecking order, it will be interesting to see if the Irishman is sent out on loan in January.
