According to The Sun, West Ham have sent scouts to watch Mario Mandzukic in action for Croatia in recent weeks with the view to sign the big forward in the January transfer window.
It’s come as exciting news for our Hammers fans here in the Transfer Tavern who have seen the striker play for some of the best clubs in Europe during his career.
He’s led the line for the likes of Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich and Juventus during his time but he is seeing the opportunity of minutes in Turin deplete thanks to the signing of Gonzalo Higuain by the Bianconeri in the summer.
It’s that factor, then, that Slaven Bilic believes on which he can persuade his compatriot to sign for the struggling Hammers and he certainly seems to be interested if the report is to be believed.
The story suggests Mandzukic was scouted by the east London side during the international break as his Croatia team faced Northern Ireland with any possible deal likely to see him become the club’s first-choice striker.
Other pretenders to that crown have either been injured as with Andy Carroll or simply not good enough in the case of Simone Zaza, and with the Hammers a point above the relegation zone, something needs to be done.
Our landlord here in the Transfer Tavern thinks for Croatian striker is exactly what the Hammers need, and thinks that Bilic should do everything in his power to lure the forward to the London Stadium in January!
