Talking Tactics: West Ham’s new team can give Liverpool a lot to think about today

West Ham United could be one of the underdogs in the new campaign having splashed the cash over the course of the summer transfer window.

The London club will have their sights set firmly on securing a European spot and could cause a few upsets against some of the big guns.

An away trip to Anfield is the perfect opportunity to cause an upset against a Liverpool side that were almost crowned Champions of Europe in the last campaign. Although, the Reds are normally dominant at home and they have strengthened this summer, so the Hammers will need to play well to come away with anything.

Nevertheless, having taken Pellegrini’s selections from pre-season into consideration, we’ve come up with a team that we think the Chilean could line up with against Liverpool.

WEST HAM UNITED’S POTENTIAL TEAM VS LIVERPOOL

We’ve gone with a 4-4-1-1 formation, as that is the formation that has suited West Ham United over the course of pre-season. This allows the wingers to make use of space out wide and provides the striker with plenty of support and service, with two central midfielders helping control the game.

Lukasz Fabianski should line up in-between the sticks for the Hammers after making his summer move from Championship side Swansea City.

In defence, Aaron Creswell and summer signing Ryan Fredericks will operate on either flank, while Angelo Ogbonna and Fabian Balbuena will form a partnership at the heart of the defence.

Former Arsenal man Jack Wilshere and fan favourite Mark Noble will sit in the middle of midfield, with both men having plenty of experience under their belts.

Two of the Hammers’ biggest signings should line up on either wing as Andriy Yarmolenko and Felipe Anderson will be looking to stamp their authority on proceedings in the Premier League.

Lastly, Marko Arnautovic will be looking to provide goals and assists in attacking areas for the London club as he operates behind Javier Hernandez, who has a point to prove after last season.
