It’s fair to say that the first half season at the London Stadium have been bleak for West Ham United, who flirted with relegation and struggled to get positive results.
However, things are on the rise.
Back-to-back victories against Crystal Palace and Middlesbrough have raised morale and have seen Slaven Bilic’s side move into the top-half of the table, just four points behind West Brom in eighth.
With those wins, the imminent loss of Dimitri Payet seems pretty redundant and may end up benefitting the Hammers, due to the fee they’ll land, and it’s clear the Frenchman isn’t providing the same brilliant performances he did last season.
Little worry though because Andy Carroll seems to have found form and West Ham will be bolstered by January arrivals this month, with Jose Fonte already arriving from Southampton to provide experience to a frail back-line and a new striker also likely to bolster the attack.
With Scott Hogan in their sights, West Ham’s attack will be improved significantly and the potential arrival of Robert Snodgrass should fill the void left by Payet, providing the Hammers with a link between attack and defence, putting opportunities on a plate for Carroll and Hogan.
Slaven Bilic deserves credit for the work he has done in January and things should now be on the rise, with the Hammers pushing back to the sort of position you’d expect to see them.
