With a full season under his belt at West Ham United once the campaign comes to an end, it would be safe to assume that Manuel Pellegrini will have a clearer idea about who he wants in his squad and who he does not have plans for in the future.
The Chilean is going to have certain areas of the pitch that he wants to improve, whilst he will also want to reduce the numbers at the club as well, which could mean some of the players who are out on loan could have the opportunity to leave permanently.
What’s the News?
One man that has been attracting interest is Edimilson Fernandes, who is currently playing for Fiorentina.
According to a report by Le10Sport, Olympique de Lyonnais are interested in the Switzerland international and have made him a target, should they fail to keep Tanguy Ndombele at the club beyond the end of the campaign.
The 22-year-old arrived at West Ham in the summer of 2016 from Sion but has struggled to make an impact at the London Stadium.
Fernandes has rarely had the opportunity to make an impression, having made 48 appearances for the club in that time, whilst he has also been used in a number of different positions as well.
Fiorentina are believed to have the option to turn the loan deal into a permanent switch at the end of the season, however, there are question marks about whether the Serie A outfit are prepared to do so, despite him having featured regularly for them.
Lyon’s interest in the player would come somewhat as a surprise, given that they are a rather big club in the grand scheme of things and could be playing Champions League football next season.
It would certainly make sense for Pellegrini to offload the midfielder, as he already has a number of options who play in his position, whilst raising cash from a potential Fernandes sale could help the Hammers finance a move for a player in a different area of the field.
