West Ham United appear to be playing with fire over their latest stance regarding the future of one of their hottest players.
The teenager is thought to have just under two years of his present deal to run at the London Stadium and the Irons are keen for him to extend it.
The 19-year-old, who has earned glowing reviews for his performances over the last couple of seasons, is thought to have rejected the latest offer from West Ham – with it believed to have been an increase from £3,000 a week to just £12,000.
With the club’s hardball approach, they could then be taking a huge risk on Rice’s future as top Premier League clubs are thought to remain interested in what happens with the defender.
West Ham will need to make sure they can tie down Rice to a new deal as quickly as possible, however, their stance will not help to improve things.
£12,000 a week in footballing terms is extremely low, especially considering how talented the teenager is, and the club should be looking to offer a fair bit more than that to try and keep him at the London Stadium.
However, with the club not prepared to budge and genuine interest from elsewhere, the Hammers look to be playing a hugely risky game.
