Not often do you see Michael Carrick take centre stage- he’s a player that throughout lots of his career has been quite happy to play in the background.
But the former England star was the main man this afternoon as he took to the pitch for his testimonial game to commemorate his memorable playing career at Manchester United.
Infront of a packed Old Trafford crowd, midfielder Carrick took to the pitch alongside some famous faces as his team drew 2-2 against another side made up of former greats.
And it was a fitting end to his time in Manchester, as he scored a cracking goal infront of his home fans on his return to the pitch.
He’s not been known for his goalscoring talents throughout his career but this one was a real beauty- hammering it home after some good work in the middle of the park.
And as you might expect, the fans lining the pub here in the bar and supporters on social media were as surprised as us to see him bang in such a special goal which really did mark a fitting end to what had been a glittering career in the Premier league.
So with that in mind, here’s the best of the fallout as Michael Carrick took to the pitch and scored a worldie in his very own testimonial.
Michael Carrick, what a player, what a career!

Michael Carrick is easily one of England’s most underrated and under appreciated players in the modern era. Pivotal in Man Utd’s success.
