Everton have enjoyed a successful time of things in the Premier League recently as they continue to work towards securing a European place.
The Toffees spent big during the summer transfer window as they drafted in a number of players to help Marco Silva fulfil his aims and goals in the current campaign.
Although, this left some of the club’s first team members in a spot of bother as their future immediately came under the spotlight, with only a limited amount of spaces available on the pitch.
Ademola Lookman joined Everton on the 5th of January 2017 for £11 million from Charlton Atheltic as one of the hottest prospects in the whole of English football. And, he made his debut for the club ten days later in a 4–0 victory over Manchester City, replacing Ross Barkley in the 90th minute and scoring the team’s fourth goal.
However, things changed in the January transfer window. Sam Allardyce originally stated that Lookman would not be leaving on loan in January, but he changed his mind, and the club arranged a move to Championship club Derby County, where they hoped he would play regular first-team football.
But, the player insisted on an alternative move, and joined Bundesliga club RB Leipzig until the end of the 2017–18 season. The youngster enjoyed a very successful time of things in Germany as he managed to score five goals and provided four assists in 11 appearances for Leipzig.
The forward hasn’t been able to enjoy regular minutes since arriving back in the summer as Marco Silva continues to leave him on the substitutes’ bench. Interestingly, it has been reported that the Toffees are eyeing Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka and could potentially include Ademola Lookman in a deal.
Wan-Bissaka has shown plenty of promise and is establishing himself as one of the rising stars in the Premier League, but swapping Lookman for the full-back wouldn’t be a very sensible idea. The striker has already shown that he can score goals in Europe and was an instant hit when joining Everton back in 2017, so it comes as some surprise that Marco Silva has opted to use the likes of Cenk Tosun and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in his place.
With the potential to become a future star of the game having already shown he has what it takes during limited minutes in the Premier League and on loan in the Bundesliga, the Toffees would be gifting Palace an absolute steal if they hand Lookman over as the only player they should look at potentially swapping him for is Wilfried Zaha.
Sadly, the Toffees have already made a couple of transfer mistakes in the past, with Shane Duffy and Gerard Deulofeu enjoying their rise to stardom since departing, so they won’t want to make a similar mistake.
