At this moment of time, it is hard to imagine Wilfried Zaha leaving Crystal Palace in the summer.
Yes, the 26-year-old quite clearly wants a new challenge, with Sky Sports reporting that he has told the Eagles he wants a transfer away from Selhurst Park.
But at the £100m the south London club are said to be demanding (The Telegraph), Zaha is not going anywhere.
Still, it would be foolish for Crystal Palace not to have contingency plans in place with there being no guarantees that a crazy and desperate Premier League club will not come in and stump up that sum of money.
Bearing that in mind, it is not a surprise to see Crystal Palace register an interest in OGC Nice’s Allan Saint-Maximin.
According to Nice-Matin (via Get French Football News), the Eagles could go up against Newcastle United and Everton for the 22-year-old’s signature, though there is nothing yet to suggest he is being lined up as a Zaha replacement.
But if that does end up being the case, then there would be reason for Crystal Palace supporters to be optimistic.
Clearly still a raw talent, it could take some time before Saint-Maximin really starts to fill the Ivory Coast international’s boots.
But looking at his skill set, there is certainly room for him to be developed into an equally dangerous forward.
Like Zaha, 1v1, 1v2 or even 1v3, Saint-Maximin is brilliant. The way he can get past an opposition defender is just ridiculous.
Now it is simply about adding that ruthlessness in front of goal to his game, something Crystal Palace fans have seen Zaha develop over the last couple of years.
Not too sure about that Gucci headband the France U21 international insists on sporting during games. But as far as an attacking addition goes, be it a Zaha replacement or counterpart on the opposite flank, Crystal Palace could do a lot worse.
