Everton have a lot of young talents in their ranks with very bright futures.
Just some of the names like Tom Davies, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ademola Lookman all spring to mind when talking about The Toffee’s young prospects.
One player that is perhaps not as well known as those three, despite being older than all of them, is 22-year-old Brendan Galloway. The full-back sprung onto the scene at Goodison Park in the 2015/16 season, making 15 starts for The Blues in the Premier League. However, he has not featured for them since then.
The England under-21 international was loaned out to West Brom for the 2016/17 season, only playing a handful of games, and went to Sunderland last year, and ended up playing for their under-23 side. It was not the greatest loan spell. He is yet to feature for Everton this season, and it looks very unlikely that he will after the club brought in a host of defenders over the summer such as Yerry Mina, Kurt Zouma and Lucas Digne.
Therefore, Galloway may well be best served having another loan spell, but doing what his teammate Lookman did, and what an increasing number of young English players are doing, and go abroad. Lookman had a very successful spell at RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga last term, and could surely influence his teammate. Jadon Sancho is another glaring example of a player struggling in England, and having huge success on the continent.
For now, though, it seems very unlikely that Galloway will find his way into the Everton starting XI under manager Marco Silva. That doesn’t mean he cannot develop and improve his career elsewhere, and abroad may be the best option in January.
